Kings have defeated Athletico in the grand final of the eXTREMESLAND ANZ Regional Finals, securing themselves a spot at the $100,000 tournament in Shanghai, China.
The event kicked off with Athletico (using Tyson "pan1K" Missak as a stand-in) unexpectedly eliminating the tournament favourites Chiefs, in the first semi-final of the day where they managed to clinch the nail-biting series, 2-1 (16-12 de_mirage, 6-16 de_train, 16-14 de_nuke).
In the other semi-final, Kings were on the verge of elimination after losing the first map to Grayhound on Nuke, 16-10. Erdenetsogt "erkaSt" Gantulga and co. were up 14-13 on the second map, but failed to close out the series quickly as Travis "wizard" Richardson's crew pulled off the reverse sweep, stealing the last two maps with 16-14 scorelines (de_mirage and de_inferno).
The grand final witnessed a flawless 15-0 CT run from Kings on Overpass against Athletico. Ollie "DickStacy" Tierney's side managed to prevent the 16-0 dream from occurring by claiming the second pistol round. Jordan "Hatz" Bajic's squad went on to win the map 16-3 with ease, and comfortably sealed the series on their map pick, 16-6 on Train.
